Discussions Activity Sign In. The console I was attempting to trade in was in immaculate condition and I wanted to match to the CEX value, cex trade ins the assistant and manager argued that it was only b grade and so offered less. They also wouldn't price match on the two games I wanted to trade as the Game selling price was lower than the CEX trade in price.
Cex trade ins a business perspective I completely understand this, however, if you're not going to price match, don't have posters and scrolling messages on TV screens saying 'we won't be beaten on trade ins'. I know there is the standard get out clause in the terms and conditions about the manager's decision being final, but Game's advertising is fundamentally misleading and it's quite deliberate. I haven't liked using Game for some time now, but the shop is convenient when I'm cex trade ins town and the only other option for new stuff is the piss poor selection in HMV.

I was told that 'a' grade was for a new machine fresh out of the box only and 'b' was for a console that showed clear signs of use such as scratches, fingerprints or marks.

I suppose it's nicer to ascribe idiocy over malice but it seemed cut and dry to me- the condition would warrant the top price game offer. Ah it's quite a weird situation. Price matching based on the value a third party might or might not give. I think if you get the valuation from cex on paper then it's solid ground but I think expecting game to do cex valuation and then offer their best price is a bit too much.
But if the console is in good nick just stop dicking about and offer the higher price. Else you might piss off your customer Yeah I'm at HMgav mate. Was a cex trade ins at Game the year the Wii came out though. Don't even know if we're doing the Pro. The margins in games retail are so razor thin, HMgav quite rightly thinned their "offer" down. Another sku imo, anyway will further confuse things within limited shopfloor space. Maybe you'll get it in the bigger flagship regional stores.
