A few weeks ago, some Team Liquid members took to twitter , outraged at what they perceived to be a targeted assault on them, perpetrated by another team in the PGL qualifiers for the upcoming LAN in Bucharest.
Thanks for being willing to jump on a call with me. We got pretty far, Broeder was a top player for a long time, and we put in a lot of hours to play seriously. We came in 3 rd in the finals, behind Cloud 9 and then AaA. Since we knew we could perform in competitive, we started signing up for qualifiers and leagues.
The situation, if I understand it correctly, is that one of your players was just unable to play that day, and so you got someone else to play on his account, right? We could only submit a roster of 5 men, four players with one sub, and we had problems fielding a team for the last round. Yeah, it was a mistake we made. Yeah there was a big shit-show surrounding that, yes. Yeah I agree with Scoom, that it happens a lot.
People tend to do this in qualifiers, to fuck over teams. However, we did not. We did not drop there to specifically fuck over Team Liquid. As you might know, Broeder is our shot-caller. We had no in-game-leader. We had no success in our previous drops, so we decided to drop [Chumacera] not knowing that Team Liquid went there as well. So, we go further in to loot. But up until that point, Liquid had every opportunity to leave the town.
They knew we drove in there. Yeah I believe you. Especially when you have no shot-caller, I can understand having unusual strategies. Yeah we were pretty much an unorganized mess, no one was making the split-second decisions, if you know what I mean.
So yeah, those were not our best games. But we did not assault Team Liquid specifically. Yeah, we saw the tweets but ignored them, hoping the conflict would just die out in a couple of days, and everyone would have forgotten about it. I have to assume that most or all of that is just because of the account sharing, but why do they even mention this problem of following Team Liquid? They could just have observers in the game, or check the replay files like the ones you sent to me.
Yeah, they put that there because they read about it on social media, right?. We decided not to get into it, you know. We decided to let it go and ride it out. An hour after it was up, we contacted the GLL admins and sent them the replay file, and they immediately took that part down. But it should never have been there in the first place. Yeah I completely agree. You say that Jeemzz accused Broeder of cheating, could you explain why he was accusing him of cheating?
Well we killed Jeemzz and Ibiza in Chumacera. I got Ibi as he was running through the open. And like, I get why he was upset, it was a pretty big tournament, right? So I assume it was out of that rage that we supposedly hot dropped them and chased them, right? He also posted a whole bunch of nasty comments on a private scrim discord. Yeah I can show you if you want me to. We only received those after we posted our statement from people who were actually in the scrim channel.
Let me see, this should be it…. Like, they seem pretty upset. And other people were being accepted that were on lower levels of play than we were. Yeah, we are doing somewhat decent. But getting proper practice in with the lower tier scrim groups can be hard, if that makes sense. Improvement can go slower than you want.
Especially with the account sharing thing. Well thanks again for the interview, I appreciate it. It was nice talking to you. What follows is the lightly paraphrased and edited transcript of the discussion. Can you give me a quick backstory on your team?
