D Kind regards, Tobias. I guess you have to install it from the bootloader because the descriptor is saying that it is for IB, so probably you cannot install it with the web interface. Just let me know how far you get and I am sure we get it work. I would really like to see it there. But my experience so far is, that I submitted an urgent important patch for mtd on 28th of June and it is still in status "new".
And this is a correction for a bug, which might brick a lot of routers Anyway you can download the required patches from the sources folder to build the trunk. I just want to let you know that your test image is ready. D Kind regards, Tobias Hi Tobias and vielen danks, Today i installed the test image and long story short it seems to work The HDD hears like it is being used but no led and cant find it at any place Bytheway this is the console log i get when loading Registered protocol family 17 [ 2.
Skipping autodetection of RAID arrays. New USB device strings: USB hub found [ It is just the default one from m ultiple d evice. There is just one test I would like to ask you to perform. Please try the following: If it loads correctly then please try hwclock And report the result. I did what you asked and hwclock returned: No such file or directory It didnt hanged, just restarted after insmod command.
It didnt hanged, just restarted after insmod command Thank you for your feedback, so it is definitly the RTC. I added some addtional debug output in order to identify the problem.
Could you run the test one more time? It will print some output to the console, so you should run it from the console. With this output I will be able to fix it in order to make sure that we don't run into this in future versions.
Sorry for the delay Hey Tobias im see new testing release. Whats new in near future? Bytheway i bricked the nas cos the overlay fs was almost full and decided to move some dirs and link them to the harddisk new ubication I wrote a post about it. Unfortunately I had little time the last weeks. The testing release was for tracking down a problem with pabmardo. In his case the kernel stops when initializing the real time clock module. I suppose this is due to a bad value.
The testing release is basically a 3. Indeed it seems to work for him without the RTC module. Anyway I would like to include a fix and include again in future kernels.
Planned for the future: It seems that the OpenWRT guys have the 3. I am still trying to move everything to full zero copy. But the issue so far is, when I activate the "use sendfile" option in Samba, then performance drops instead of increasing. It seems that the splice implementation passes only single pages to the network driver instead of passing 8 pages together and leave the TCP segmentation to the network card.
Without "use sendfile" the data has to be copied from kernel space to user space and back again, but as the network card does the segmentation the performance is better.
With the current firmware the transfer needed s 5. I did the same test with the original firmware 2. Is there anything wrong with my system or can anybody explain the difference? Thank you very much for your help. Anyway something you may want to try is mount the NFS file system with tcp. The write performance could be optimized by using the hash and classification features of the network card.
This was partly implemented in the original firmware but unfortunately unreliable. For UDP segementation offload is not supported by the network card.
However for writing to the NAS i. If want to contribute you are welcome to work on this. For now I think a stable reliable implementation is peferrable over an unstable network link. Hi tobias, im up again but having troubles installing stuff Tobias ived tested again installing and executing hwclock and it says hwclock: No such file or directory again Hi pabmardo, I suppose that your mediatomb database is stored in the flash.
Hello Tobias, thank you for your answer. I will do further experiments with the NAS. Will keep you informed. Hi, Tobias, and to all the thread users. As I told earlier, I have a nas icybox from raidsonic.
I'll flash the firmware with your image manually and give you the output. Hi, I've manually flashed it and here's the output. It gets stuck at loop module loaded Thanks for the info. It seems that the flash chip is not detected. Could you also post the log of the startup with the original firmware? That would help me to figured out the required changes. No such process su: Fri Jan 27 I would also like to ask you to post the output of Code: But I guess you figured that. I can tell you that some errors may be due to the loss of some settings I had. Thanks for the update. I think with this I should be able to provide a working kernel. I think this weekend I can provide a test version for you. Hi there, I have a "Taurus Gigalan" running the vendor's 2. Will I lose any data in the process? I've taken a back up, of course.. But i'd rather not lose anything if possible: Hi, Tobias, I wait for the new kernel to do the test.
Have a nice Sunday. Hi elysium, to my knowledge it is using the same board, so it should work. But keep in mind that is was never tested on this NAS, so there is a chance that the ugrade might fail and you would need a console cable. Anyway the contents of your discs will remain untouched. I had to work on an incident this weekend and did not have the time to complete unfortunately.
But I'm still working on it and will provide a kernel in the next days. I also have a Taurus Gigalan, and OpenWrt works like a charm. The difference i've recognized between the Taurus Gigalan and the official IB-NASB was the pin assignment while trying to connect the serial datacable for unbricking the device.
Excellent, I'll give mine a go. Hopefully I won't need to make a serial cable to unbrick anything! Curious, how did you brick it? Before i knew there was this amazing openwrt port i flashed some other firmwares and one time i pressed the firmware flash button in the webinterface twice P it didnt boot correct But to be honest Hi all, Tobias, this image works great!
Is it possible to add more package sources? I tested a couple and they aren't the correct architecture - which I guess I should have realised.. Are there any known sources that are compatible? Also, Is it possible for you to share or link to a brief document about building packages? That way we might not have to hassle you every time someone wants a new package. I just compiled the full wget package for you but you need to upgrade first to the latest version, which I released today Changes are as usual in http: If you want to build it yourself have a look at http: Tobias, thanks for latest firmware.
Upgraded again with no problems. Just have to remember to relink my home folders: Hello Tobias, thanx for great job.
Really an excellent job. I've started this off but I run into problems building in my ubuntu vm; When building the eglibc toolchain with "make"; in: Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to hear that. I forgot to add some new patches to my SVN repository. Finally I had the time for some further investigation and setting up a new board type. Please try the zImage in the testing directory. You can use the standard rd. Hi, Tobias, I flashed the last image you indicated me.
I think it's still the same. Start the Kernel Code 2: Create New Image 5: Enter Command Line Interface 6: Set IP Address 7: Set MAC Address 8: Download by X-modem 2: Successful to download by TFTP!

Hi, Tobias; if you like I could give you access to my box. Just find me on skype. Best regards Try to change nas to default values. Your data on hdd is secure. Best regards The next driver after the loop device seems to be the power device basically the power button.
When I get home this evening I will provide a new test version without it. Yes, I flashed the original firmware and all is ok, even the optware with all the settings I instaled about 2 years ago. So i'll test again, any image you point me to, as long as it doesn't interfere with the HDD still it wouldn't be a problem or redboot to brick the NAS.
I sent you the previous message in case you would like to connect through ssh to do additional tests. Hi fratzicu, my dmesg looks as follows: I just created a new kernel without this and would like to ask you, to try one more time. Hi, Tobias; It seems the same. Also, I compared the 3 files I had flashed until now and they are the same compared byte by byte.
I took them from your testing folder on http: So the output is the same. Please tell me where should I download the files from, or please give them different names and put them in the folder testing. Hi fratzicu, you were right, there was a problem in my automatic update script.
I fixed and added current date and time in order to distinguish it. This the behaviour should be different. Hi, Tobias, It seems that now it works, but I can't login as root; I don't know the root password.
I thaught that at first login i have to give the password. Instead, it seems to already have a password. Here is the code: USB Serial Driver core [ 1. Registered protocol family 17 [ 1. I also have a usb hard disk connected and it is not detected. I have ntfs partitions on them. I would like to mont them and share them over the network. Thank you very much for your work. Hi fratzicu, so it seems that finally it was the pwc device. I will check what we can do with that anyway. Regarding the harddisk and USB it seems that the modules are not loaded.
They are loaded after the initialization of the kernel. Just to be sure, which image did you use for rd. It should be the one from , because older images are with different kernels. It should be 3. If it is 3. Flashing now with Ok, let know if it works afterwards. Do the LEDs work as expect? Once we got everything running then I will generate complete sysupgrade images for as well, so you don't have to worry about the versions anymore Kind regards, Tobias.
Hi, Tobias, It works pretty fine now, still testing. It stays longer at boottime to find the decond drive Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0 [ Commit interval 5 seconds [ Run chkdsk and mount in Windows. I removed the second PATA channel from ib board. Now the boot sequence should be faster. Hi again, Well, I'll flash the new kernel image, but in the meantime I'll tell you another isue: The issue is with the ntfs partitions: I can mount them as ntfs -t ntfs with option rw, but when I try to create a folder, or copy something there it says operation not permitted.
Maybe the ntfs-3g driver would be beter. See you later The problem seems to be that the last umount wasn't clean: So, after connecting it to Windows and running chkdsk you should have write access. Anyway I'm compiling ntfs-3g and will provide as package on a few minutes. You're right, but I checked it in windows and it mounted it apparently ok, but there were still the operation not permitted issue. The ntfs-3g packages are ready now. Let me know if they work for you.
Don't forget to run opkg update first to update the package list. Hi, Tobias, Things are working great. Things coul work with this configuration, but I still have some issues: Can it be selected from the luci menu? It seems that the luci menu doesn't translate to the fstab file. Otherwise, I think this is great work! Can it be selected from the luci menu?! I have to admit that I never used ntfs-3g so far but I would imagine that these restrictions apply because it is based on fuse.
You are right, there is no support for UUID. OpenWRT was designed for in the first place for routers, I guess therefore it was not considered as an important feature. It is not overwritten during upgrades. Well, that was just a problem with the naming. I renamed the leds in the ib machine section to.. To make it easier the names are now.. I will publish in a moment a comlete sysupgrade for ib With this one the leds should work as expected.
Everything required for building it yourself will be included in the next days to the sources folder. I just wanted to finish a stable version for ib before integrating it in the source. Anyway the packages are shared, so at least openvpn is already available: Nice to hear that it is running now on the IBB as well. Hi fratzicu, the complete sysupgrade image is now ready. I just would like to know if we are ready for upgrading the IBB without console cable.
When flashing from webinerface it says productID is wrong. In the original firmware, it was like that but i like to be dhcp enabled: So it seems that it is just the model ID. The original looked pretty much the same but with instead of So I just change the ImageInfo file for the sysupgrade image. Would you mind to try one more time? I just include it in order to satisfy the original RS firmware. I think you have to put "pleiades" instead of "pddlan".
I think you have to put "pleiades" instead of "pddlan" Sounds convincing. I changed it accordingly. Could you try one more time? Then I flashed individual files from the latest sysupgrade, but the system hanged after uncompressing linux So i flashed again with naszImage and the rd.
It seems that for any reason the kernel did not build correctly. I tried the kernel as well with the same result. I can run it on th as well for test purposes, it just uses then only 64MB and one disc. I will build a new package in the evening and test it before.
I wonder if there is a possibility to flash firmware using telnet access tftpd - my box lost GUI suddenly failsafe - telnet still working ; if this is possible - how? My box is probably a monday one - failed to implement raid10 some time ago Kind regards, Tobias Hi fratzicu, finally an entry in a Makefile was missing and the board information did not get compiled in. I built now a new package and double checked this time that the kernel is running with the definition.
The new package is now using the 3. The settings are conserved during the sysupgrade. I've installed it but am really struggling to set it up. Keep getting access problems with root password. I'm trying to set it up for Amarok. Thanks Paul Hi Paul, may be this is what you are looking for: Hi, Tobias; I am testing the version that worked, for about 2 days now.
I had some problems in creating a new user with a home folder, but I created it on a mounted ext3 partition that I had. Also, Transmission didn't work for some reason, maybe because I ran it as the new user, not as root. I changed the location of the transmission configuration folder and watch folder also on the ext3 partition. Also, I added 2 lines in the startup script rc.
I'll perform the sysupgrade with the luci interface and I'll let you know. Hi, again, I installed the new firmware from web luci and worked fine. The settings were kept. I still have issues with mounting the usb partition with ntfs at startup. Anyway, the build seems pretty stable. Hi again; a new error occured: Bad page state in process transmission-da pfn: USB disconnect, device number 2 [ Hi, Tobias, Testing for about 3 days your last build.
I think it's pretty stable. I'll do more testing and I'll keep you informed. The only problem right now seems to be related to the usb driver. My device seems to have only one usb port. I tried connecting to it an usb hub. When i connect the printer through the usb hub, it is not properly deected. When i connect many usb memory sticks to the hub, they can be all available. The same issue was also on the original firmware, but the original firmware automatically detected the usb partitions and automounted them.
The next step would be for me to be able to compile my own image as a user, not as a developer. I offer to test the images on my device and give feedback for that purpose. Also, can other users have access to this config kernel, image build, patches, etc, so they could contribute? There is another person who could be interested in contributing to the project.
He published his work on opengemini. And there were others, of course, mostly interested in the 2-bay version NAS Anyway, thank you very much again for your work. Hi, first of all thanks for the great work! Second, I can't address my NAS with its name. Also, from NAS using ssh I can't reach any pc with: I'm sure there is an option in the GUI to change this.
Login using the IP and have a look. Thanks for the fast reply! Prior to that I bought 2 HDDs not working with the NAS, after it I did a lot of reading and gained more experience with the nas, in fact, today I have a running and "reliable" hahaha, ib-nasb, what is reliable?
NAS with the known bugs and limitations of the native firmware 2. I'm looking forward to an extensive testing, but, my question: Thank you for yours answers, and thank you to the producer of the openWRT-firmware, It seems to be a great piece of software. Hello Tobias and the rest of the community! Any news about getting ntfs-3g to work, or have someone have success to get it work already?
No such device root OpenWrt: What I've googled a bit, seems that this platform is not only one with problems. Hi Tobias, hi everyone! Since I have installed your new firmware, I'm a happy user: I was wondering if your open WRT port would support any harddrive. I know there were some limitations with the stock IB firmware.
In case it's important, I'm still on a Rev 1. I updated the packages already to the 3. I created a new package for IBB with 3. After the update fuse and ntfs-3g should work as expected. Thank you for yours answers, and thank you to the producer of the openWRT-firmware, It seems to be a great piece of software Hi Jay , you don't have to be worried to lose any data on your discs.
Just the same story as with an firmware upgrade: Be sure to be patient during the upgrade. If you shutdown you NAS before it completes you need to recover it using a console cable. If you still have board 1. Cheers, Kako78 HI Kako78, there were several incompatibilites regarding the discs, I'm afraid most of them are hardware related and fixed with board 1.
If you have trouble with discs you can try to force them SATA1 via jumper if supported. May be we can start a separate thread were everyone posts his discs, so we get a whitelist of working discs. I will contribute mine this evening. Software limitations applied basically to partition size, so it was not possible to create partitions bigger than 2TB.
So there is no garantuee of any newer to disc work, specially not on board 1. I just want to confirm that there is a new version based on the 3. Starting with this version there is also support for the IBB. Therefore I split up the download directory into and The packages are common for both. I also updated the sources directoy if someone is in the mood to build it from source.
Probably I will try one more time to get it included into the openwrt trunk. In a recent discussion on the mailing list they were talking about imroving the process if incorporating new patches faster than in the past.
Hi everyone, As suggested, I created a new post to inventory working harddrives. Grateful if could reply to that thread: Hi Tobias and thanks for the quick response! Is there any chance of "etherwake" package, or does anyone know how to send a wake-on-LAN magic packet with any of the existing OpenWRT commands? I am new to linux and openwrt world. I would also like to know if I can even install Forked Daapd that sounds very interesting because compared to the iTunes server mt-daapd supports Remote!
Thanks to all and especially Thanks very much to Tobias for his wonderful work! It's in the repository now: I am new tolinux andopenwrtworld. I would also liketo know ifI caneven installdaapdForkedthat sounds very interestingbecause comparedto the iTunesservermt-daapdsupportsRemote! Thanksto all andespecially Thanks very muchto Tobiasfor hiswonderful work! I will compile it this week for you and give you an update when it is ready. Kind regards, Tobias Splendido!
Thanks as ever, Rob. Hi Tobias, Some questions again, sorry. I upgraded to sysupgrade-ib I installed etherwake from http: However, I noticed "ether-wake" is in busybox, so I have that feature working, which is great: But which repository should I be using? Now my ssh is accessible on internet, I saw in the server logs that some IP address in China has been trying to log in every second for quite a long time.
So I thought I would install "fail2ban" that can block IP addresses after a number of failed attempts and for a configurable time. But this is a python script and might need iptables too. I cannot log on via ssh Putty closes immediately the password is entered but the luci web is still working. However, in the web interface, the kernel log, system log, process list etc. And I cannot reflash the same firmware sysupgrade-ib Make sure that you choose the generic image format for your platform.
Could it be due to the python package? How to recover the situation? Safe-boot and delete overlay? Thanks and regards, Rob. That sound like you need the fail-safe mode. Maybe you installed something from the wrong repository. You are in fail-safe mode if both LEDs stay lit. Then I would mount discs in order to backup the overlayfs. Your sshd problem -?? Thanks Tobias and rmoron, It wasn't an upgrade problem, just a brain-fade package install.
Not that I really know what to look for. So rather than waste more time on fixing it, I just deleted it, rebooted, then re-applied the few configs I had. And store an archive image. It is probable that I used the wrong repository: Anyway, now I have created another user account that I can ssh with and su from, and disabled ssh root login, which I should have done to begin with. And all is well again.
Looking at fail2ban python script; it does require iptables if I want to block specific IP addresses as opposed to send a mail or record the intrusion attempt but I note from a much earlier post that iptables maybe not recommended because it would affect network throughput. Was that just in the context of daschacka's VPN setup or is it generally bad for performance?
Have just installed the openwrt firmware, Bit of a noob at this, so could anyone tell me how to mount my hard drives, they are in formatted in ext2 and in a Span raid. Click on System tab at top. Click Mount Points tab. Under Mount Points click Add. You should be able to see you drives and put in parameters etc. Hi Tobias, How about some kind of cryptfs or similar? I know, performance would be quite slow but it would be nice to have small and reliable backup-solution for small amout of private data.
Unfortunately I did not get the hardware crypto engine running so far. I will provide it in the next days so you can try it and give us some feedback.
