Really excited to receive the Nano S offline cold wallet in the post today especially when I have been waiting for six weeks for it. Its comes installed with Etherium and Bitcoin Wallets and using the Chrome extension you cana download other alt coins like Dash, Dodge, Litcoin, Ripple and many more. So I attempted to firstly upgrade the firmware, like a responsible IT support guy, before adding the other alt coins and I get the message "insufficient remaining spce".
Surely there should be enough space to update the firmware and add any new alt coins that enter the market onto it? I'm loathed to reset the nano and before I do, have any of you had this experience or advise me on next steps. OK so Ive figured it out, if you want to use more than the max coins, you have to remove the coin you dont want to use then add another one. Since the address is on the blockchain it means you are not actually removing the address, only the wallet from the nano.
I got same error while installing multiple coin apps,although Ledger Nano S supports multiple cryptocurrencies but it can support about 5 at a time exact count may vary but don't be disheartened as you can still install and manage 10 Crypto currencies using the same Ledger Nano S as below: Apart from the 10 above there are Komodo,PoSw,Hello,Fido U2F--not sure what are these though--may be some Ledger interfaces for enhanced security But for using all 10 coin wallets all you need to do is uninstall the one that you are not currently using and install the other one,yes i know it sounds crazy but don't worry you coins will not get lost because the coins are managed at the addresses on the blockchain ; for example you have 3 Eth in your hardware wallet and now you want to access Dash wallet but you don't have enough space on the hardware ledger nano s ,all you need to do is that since you are not currently using the Eth on your wallet,you uninstall the Eth wallet from the Ledger device you have using Ledger Wallet manager see below: After you have uninstalled the Eth wallet,you can download and install the Dash wallet from Ledger Manager and may be receive some coins in it.
Now suppose you want to access your Ethereum that you previously held at your ledger wallet,so you can repeat this process again but in a reverse manner Hardware wallets are probably the safest means of storing your valuable cryptos. If I had known before ordering it that it would be so tedious I would have waited for a better alternative which I have no doubt is just around the corner. This is good explanation but it's a bummer ledger nano is soooo not user friendly as it requires all these extra moves.
If I uninstall a wallet to make room for another currency, while the wallet is removed can I still receive payments from the wallet which has been removed? Payments are done on the blockchain, not on a wallet. You can always accept payments. The wallet is a way to access your account on the blockchain, it uses the keys that are stored on the Ledger. Even the keys are technically not stored on the Ledger, they are generated from your 24 word seed.
This allows you to restore your keys on a different Ledger in case you lost yours. I transferred tron trx to the ledger etherium wallet of nano S. I uninstalled the etherium wallet and reinstalled it in the ledger nano S. Now, my account says zero etherium. TRX is a token on the ethereum network, not ether. You can see the TRX on your ethereum address by using etherscan.
Good to be warned in advance for possible issues. This will save me some headaches: Did you figure out the problem with uninstalling the apps? I had this issue before myself and I figured that that you can only have 5 apps installed at a time. I dunno why it won't do more but at least you will still have the coins in your hardware wallet even if you uninstall one of them. This is still a crazy way to manage wallets - what do you think? Won't let me uninstall apps either Hmmmm whats going on? I am also unable to remove apps to create space to update the firmware!
